the T-shirt stalls on the hill: Montmartre’s back streets
are home to a kaleidoscope of boutiques, ateliers and shops we’d
happily spend an afternoon exploring. Here are three addresses we
head to when shopping in Montmartre.

“Pet nat” enthusiasts, this one’s for you. This British-run shop
sells an intriguing mix of small-batch natural wines, craft beers
and vinyls (hence the name). The owner is happy to advise you on
the best bottles depending on your budget or the occasion you’re
buying for. It’s in an authentic, un-touristy spot, so it’s a great
area to explore after you’ve stocked up on bottles.

Hidden in plain sight on Rue Ramey, on the east of the hill,
Jordane Somville’s boutique sells elegant handcrafted jewellery
made in the atelier out back. The multi-talented designer and
ceramicist makes all her pieces by hand, including bold rings and
beautiful pendants (we love the Kiss collection). Somville also
offers jewellery-making workshops, which, with advance notice, are
available in English.

Little Africa Village is more than a boutique, though you’ll
find plenty of beautiful products on offer, spanning handmade
jewellery and original artwork to the shop’s very own Parisian
guidebook. Founded in 2014 by entrepreneur Jacqueline Ngo Mpii –
first as a tour company, then a publishing house and now a boutique
and meeting space – the aim of this airy concept store is to
“connect the African diasporas to the world, and the world to the
diasporas”. Pop in to meet the team and learn more about the rich
cultural life of Goutte d’Or, Paris’ “Little Africa”
neighbourhood.
